Two women from Ashtabula, Ohio face charges for taking the dead body of their male roommate to withdraw money from his bank account, USA Today reported on Saturday.
Loreen Feralo, 55, and Karen Casbohm, 66, allegedly found the body of their roommate Douglas Layman, 80, in their home.
The two women along with the help of a third person, took layman into his car, propping him up in the front seat so that the bank teller could see his face.
They withdrew an undisclosed amount before depositing the body at the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room. They left without divulging any details.
A few hours later, one of them called the medical centre sharing some details about Layman.
Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell, in a statement to local news outlets said, “It is alleged that Mr Layman was placed in the vehicle in such a manner that he would be visible to bank staff to make the withdrawal. The man was propped up in the passenger seat so that the teller could see him.”
“The bank had allowed this previously as long as they were accompanied by him.”
According to Lieutenant Mike Palinkas, “One of the women had been in a live-in relationship with Layman for several years while the other had been staying there for a few months.”
